The foundations for law in the American Colonies and during the early years of the United States were the Bible, the Common Law, and Sir William Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England (which were based on the prior two).  Blackstone understood that human laws based on the Law of God were fixed (unchanging), uniform (applied equally to everyone), and universal (applied to everyone).  Here are Five Universal Principles of Law and the Rule of law consistent with the beliefs of the founding generations.
